Lets talk about your adventures in grace.

So, you have started with the pursuit of your passion. You have invited others to join you, as a Support Team. And you all have a clear idea who you are serving – your Target Group. And after going full speed ahead with this pursue, you have now some experience under your belt.

Or maybe  it has all gone wrong. After all your attempts, this pesky business of doing all this in the context of diversity has proven more challenging than expected.

It does not matter. I still believe you have some stories to share, some adventures in grace that could be of encouragement for others.

What’s been done

Pursuing one’s passion may include some administrative tasks – maybe not the most exciting thing to do, I know. Today, I took care of the USCF membership for me, and for The Gwinnett Chess Co.

What if you were to start pursuing your passion, this week?

That passion of yours, that area of interest that is burning in your heart has been given to you for a reason. It is true that there are a lot of collateral benefits in pursuing your passion; you can have a lot of fun, and you can be a big blessing for others. But your passion is mainly a first row ticket to be a witness of the restoration God is able, and willing, to work in the heart of those who are His.

By pursuing your passion you can see God at work.

Next week.

For next week : follow up with those I’ve invited to be part of my Support Team, and choosing a Connecting Point. It’s going to be interesting.

Forget about the 5 year question, What about the next six months?

5yearsAlmost every person I know has faced this question. And the very first time I heard it, I thought it was so forward thinking. No wonder the Americans are in charge, I remember thinking, with this much planning for the future. The question goes something line this, What are you going to be doing in five years?

Wow! Five years? Really? For some of us, just to think that far down the road is a formidable challenge.

But I have a bigger challenge : A shorter time table.

The down side of diversity – Is there any?

dialogueIf you spend any amount of time around me, you are bound to hear me saying that I’d like everyone to be a little uncomfortable. Being outside of your comfort zone allows you to test, for real, what you believe.

And there are not that many settings as uncomfortable as diversity.

Reality check : the need for an evaluation of your pursuits

NewTGCCSummer is almost over, and we need to continue planning the events / activities we will have at our club, this school year. Today we have a short number of players coming to our weekly session. The good news is that all of them are showing a solid understanding of the game. With a smaller number of students, it is easy to keep the quality of the class at a very high level.

Another two fronts we are battling to make this Connecting Point a Small Community are : Support Team and involvement of the parents.

To pursue your passion you need a destination, a map, and fuel, of course

Probably my biggest challenge, when teaching chess, is to explain to our players the fact that there is more to the game that capturing pieces. There is an ultimate goal to the game : check mate.

Of course, to reach that goal you must know the rules of the game (sport?), and you must have a working knowledge of strategy and tactics.

With the pursue of your passion, you have similar situation. You must know where you are going, how to get there, and something to drive you through the journey.

Before you start changing the world

Changing the world may not be the main and most amazing result of the pursue of your passion, for many reasons. One of them is that we cannot change the whole world; it is way too complex.

But, with God’s help, we can be part of that transformation.

And after everything is said and done, after all the articles are written about what an amazing work you have accomplished, after you see the impact your passion had in others, the question will still remain… How much were you changed?

Aiming properly : a target group for your passion

It is really a demanding sport

There is something about the sound the chains make, when you hit them with your disc. In the sport of disc golf, you do not aim directly for the basket but for the chains on top of the basket. The function of the chains is to capture the disc and bring it down to the basket. And when you hear that sound, you know you have reach your target – most of the time.
