The benefits of using our passions, areas of interest, spiritual gift as instruments for disciple-making among the nations.
Universal language… sort of.
When making disciples among the nations – may that be at the ends of the world, around the corner in your city, or within your family – you will quickly realize clear communication is a beautiful and fragile thing. Pursuing your passion (or applying your spiritual gifts, or investing in what really interests you) in a public way, in a way that allows others to see your attempts toward excellence, and receive benefits from your efforts, can transcend language barriers. This because no matter who we are, we all have a driving force within, a passion that moves us, an interest which aims, in one form or another, at beauty.
Of course, there are instances where our passions are more in alignment with our sin than with His reconciliation. A passion not emanating from a forgiven heart will not do.
Using your passion as a tool for Spiritual Transformation will leave something clearly expressed: His Beauty is effective to restore.
Chess, computer programming, community development, the arts, coaching for families, creative writing, long distance running, soccer, poetry… nothing is too far for His grace not to reach it. He is Lord over all, and that includes the inclinations of our heart. His Beauty is so far reaching that there is no one single aspect of everyday life it cannot change.
He is willing and able to restore.
And He does it!
Another benefit of pursuing your passion faithfully and publicly is that you will see His generous providence in action.
It is really astonishing to see the abilities the Triune God of the Universe has been pleased to give us, humans. Our capability to create, our desire to explore, our attempts to maintain beauty, all of them speak volumes of how generous the LORD is.
Your equipping also testifies of His providence, of how He has planned who you are, what you like and dislike, the very story of you for a time like this.
A look inside.
And as you continue on your discipleship pathway, the cultivation of your own heart to grow as a humble follower of Christ Jesus, God the Son, pursuing your passion will give you a close look at your own heart.
There, Christian, you will see two things: that there are still remnants of pride and idolatry, but that there is also clear evidence of His work of restoration in you. In other words, pursuing your passion with the purpose of seeing and experiencing meaningful Spiritual Transformation will give you reasons to confess and repent, but also reasons to celebrate.
What is stopping you from pursuing your God-given and God-Restored Passion, with the aim of experiencing meaningful Spiritual Transformation? How are you going to repent, confess, and celebrate according to what you see taking place in your own heart?
