To tell others about His Beauty at work in us is, often, scary. This is particularly true given the environment we are living in our country. However, one way to overcome this barrier is to consider the grace and mercy we have already received.
Personal space & doubts
Our society has been telling us for a while that personal space is almost sacred. Violations to this all-important area is not only rude, but now days that transgression is approaching the level of a criminal act. A reality that requires consideration is the increase in the complexity of this issue given by the presence of cultural diversity: the more diverse the setting you are trying to make disciples, the more variants you will face regarding what is an acceptable distance to someone’s personal space.
The premium place to personal space, to individuality, to privacy makes sharing His Beauty with others, at very least, a demanding endeavor.
Then we have those pesky assaulting doubts. Just to mention a few of them: What if the ask me something I do not know about the Good News? What if their life is co complicated I cannot give a good explanation of the hope I have? What if instead of moving forward the Gospel, because of my ineptitude, I move it backwards?
An expert already
But the truth is that you have something people desire and need, to the point that, if presented with the support of God the Holy Spirit, they will be willing to let it come across their personal space.
You are also an expert in the topic because you can speak of first-hand experiences. You can tell others about how He restored and reconciled you, all because of His grace.
You have received His grace, you have enjoyed His compassion.
Because of that, He has changed your heart to the point of having compassion for those who do not know of that grace, for those who are in need of that very compassion you have enjoyed.
Being an expert will not make things easier. Having compassion overflowing your heart does not mean there won’t be some roadblocks down the path. However, being aware of His work in us, and of our total dependency on His Beauty will help us – regardless of how people respond to our expression of compassion – in growing as humble followers of Christ Jesus.
And to help increase our sensitivity to His presence and work in us, keeping a formal record of that presence and work will prove useful. By formal I do not mean expensive or complicated; a simple journal will do. Using ink and paper build a memorial to His goodness, mercy, and grace.
Furnished with this experience and resources, let your heart by moved by compassion, and tell others about the Beauty – the Person and Work – of the Triune God of the Universe.
- Start every day asking to be sensitive to His presence and guidance.
- When interacting with others, find common ground that allows you to say, “I know how it feels!”
- Then, tell them how the Triune God of the Universe intervened in your life.
- later, in personal prayer, express gratitude for the opportunity to share His Beauty with others.
- Be in expectation of He showing up, and repeat the process.
Remember His grace, Follow Him in humility, Cultivate constantly, All in cultural diversity.
